TERMS AGREED: £50m midfield maestro set for meeting over Juventus future after mother’s request to join Man United in January transfer window as Mason Mount have failed to impress
Manchester United have been heavily linked with Adrien Rabiot on several occasions and Erik ten Hag was pursuing a potential transfer for the Juventus star prior to signing Casemiro
Adrien Rabiot is set for fresh talks to extend his Juventus contract again after a potential move to Manchester United was scuppered by his mum’s demands.
The French international was outlined by Erik ten Hag as a target previously, with United’s director of football John Murtough flying out to Turin in June to discuss a deal.
But Rabiot’s agent Veronique, who is his mother, reportedly asked for a three-year deal worth £8.6million per season for her son.
She also wanted a sizeable fee for her role in the transfer and instead the 28-year-old signed a new one-year deal with Juventus, who he joined from PSG in 2019. And having made a strong start to the current campaign in Italy, Juve are now keen to tie the midfielder down long-term.
Mason Mount makes honest Man Utd admission after setting unwanted record
According to Tuttosport, he is set to be offered a new three-year contract extension, running until the summer of 2027. Talks between Juventus’ board of directors and the Rabiot family are scheduled for November.
Indeed, the ‘Old Lady’ are aware the player will be able to agree a pre-contract agreement with overseas teams in January, with United set to monitor developments. And he could yet keep his options open until next summer when he would technically become a free agent.
Ten Hag did sign Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount for £58m in the summer, although he is yet to impress for the Red Devils. And after missing out on Rabiot, a loan deal was completed for Fiorentina player Sofyan Amrabat.
But Moroccan international Amrabat has also endured an underwhelming start at United, struggling in the defeat to Crystal Palace on Saturday after being deployed in an unfamiliar left-back role.
Amid a string of injuries, and the ongoing suspension of Jadon Sancho, the Dutch boss is already looking at a fractured squad.
Financial Fair Play (FFP) restrictions would make another move for Rabiot an attractive option, given the absence of a transfer fee. But the situation is now clearly out of United’s hands.
One of the stand-out kits of the new season, the base colour of the adidas shirt is green with white stripes and maroon lines ensuring United will boast one of the most eye-catching shirts in the game for the 2023/2024 campaign.
Rabiot had made 190 appearances for Juventus, and was part of their 2019/20 Serie A winning side – having previously won five Ligue 1 crowns with PSG in France. He’s also won 39 caps for France and was part of the squad that reached the final of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
