PSG boss Luis Enrique gives huge transfer boost to Man Utd over £60m midfielder signing

Paris Saint-Germain boss Luis Enrique expects some players to leave the club before the transfer window closes with talks reportedly ongoing with Manchester United over Manuel Ugarte.

Joshua Zirkzee, Leny Yoro, Matthijs de Ligt, and Noussair Mazraoui are Man United’s four summer additions, although they are still looking for midfield reinforcements.

Ugarte has become a hot commodity; it is said that the Uruguayan international is eager to join Manchester United after reaching a personal agreement.

PSG has requested a transfer fee of €70 million (£58.8 million), but United hopes to lower that amount because the boss does not appear to have the former Sporting Lisbon star in mind for the French capital.

This week, reports appeared in the French media indicating that Enrique had disregarded Ugarte and had excluded him from PSG’s training matches, making his future there appear dismal.

PSG have already signed Joao Neves this summer from Benfica, pushing Ugarte further down the midfield pecking order and while Enrique says he is satisfied with the make-up of his current squad, he believes there could be further departures in the coming weeks.

Asked if his squad is strong enough for the coming season, Enrique told a press conference on Thursday: ‘Yes, without a doubt, it is a numerically sufficient squad.

‘It is still possible that some players arrive, that some leave. It will be a challenge. But on the number of players, I am satisfied, happy.’

He continued: ‘The transfer window is very difficult for all teams, but especially for us because we already have a great team.

‘Last year, the number of recruits was high. But we didn’t recruit players for six months or a year. We tried to make sure that there was a project, an idea to work on.

Amid talks over Ugarte, PSG are thought to have enquired into the availability of Jadon Sancho, who could still leave United despite him and Erik ten Hag burying the hatchet.
