Manchester United are still in need of a striker.

Despite the hefty purchase of Rasmus Hojlund in the summer transfer window, it’s still evident that Manchester United are lacking a bit of firepower up front.

Hojlund is still very young and inexperienced. To ask him to lead the line week in and week out at Old Trafford is a tall order – and a problem that needs to be rectified sooner rather than later.

This is why Erik ten Hag could reignite a four-year conquest for a striker, who Ole Gunnar Solksjaer wanted under his reign for United.

According to Football Transfers, Manchester United are very interested in signing Lille striker Jonathan David during the January transfer window.

The Canadian forward was scouted by Manchester United back in 2020 when he was still playing in the Belgium Pro League at Gent – but now it appears Manchester United are in for him again four years later. This was during Solskjaer’s tenure at the club.

It was also reported that when Ten Hag arrived, David was a potential option for him to bring in. This has been many years, and managers, in the making.

This means they risk losing out, with another Premier League suitor also interested.

Aston Villa also want Jonathan David
Naturally, with any prolific forward on the market, there will be other teams available. The report states that Aston Villa are also interested, with Unai Emery looking for backup for Ollie Watkins.

This comes as no shock. David is a prolific forward. He’s bagged 68 goals in 160 games for LOSC Lille during his time there. The 23-year-old also has 26 in 45 for his country.
