Man United ‘very determined’ to sign £105m Benfica wonderkid this summer
Man United are still firmly fixated on bringing Joao Neves to Old Trafford from Benfica.
Manchester United were fortunate to unearth an absolute gem in the form of Kobbie Mainoo this season, with the Stockport-born midfielder offering a glimmer of hope moving forward.
At times, the teenager has done it all on his own in the engine room. It’s too much pressure for one so young, hence, extra help is needed. Signing another top-class talent, allowing the pair to grow together, could be a wise strategy
This is a name United fans will now be familiar with, as the links have been consistent throughout the course of the campaign.
Now, O Jogo have provided another snippet of information on that front, with Sport Witness relaying the formation.
According to the claim, United are ‘very determined’ to sign the talented 19-year-old midfielder, as some ‘world giants’ are looking to bring in Neves.
The Portugal international is protected by a hefty release clause which stands at a little over £100m. Benfica will likely use this figure as a starting point and reference for any negotiations.
Neves feels like the prototypical midfielder that would be perfect for the modern-day Premier League game. That will come at a massive price, though he’d be worth it.
The problem? I highly doubt United can afford such a fee given the current situation. Money is believed to be tight while the summer is heavily reliant on player sales generating some extra funds.
I’m not sure even with sales, the Reds would be able to afford Neves – that’s assuming the club would be willing to forego signing any of their other targets
