Man United target shock summer transfer move for £50m Chelsea star

Manchester United are considering a surprise move for Chelsea left-back Ben Chilwell, according to reports.

Last season, Erik ten Hag struggled without Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, necessitating the use of a number of players, including Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Victor Lindelof, Diogo Dalot, and Sofyan Amrabat, as a temporary left-back last season.

In anticipation of the upcoming Premier League season, United is eager to bolster their defensive options, and they have already begun negotiations to recruit Matthijs de Ligt from Bayern Munich and Jarrad Branthwaite of Everton.

Nevertheless, United is also in the market for a new left-back, and Chilwell is reportedly on the team’s short list of possibilities, according to Mail Online.

Marc Cucurella was being courted by United, but negotiations fell through when Chelsea insisted on a £7 million loan fee.

Chilwell, meanwhile, started just nine Premier League games last season due to injury.

The 27-year-old, who Chelsea signed in a £50m deal from Leicester City in 2020, also missed out on a place in England’s Euro 2024 squad.

Elsewhere, Shaw insists he is fit to start England’s Euro 2024 semi final against the Netherlands on Wednesday evening.
