Man United receive huge transfer boost as they lead race to complete the signing of €50m Lille star defender amid Real Madrid links
According to a report by Le Parisien, United are ‘leading the race’ to sign Lille defender Leny Yoro.
United had an offer accepted for the Frenchman last week and are now waiting to find out if the youngster wants to join the club.
United face competition from Real Madrid to sign Yoro and it is understood he would prefer to move to the Spanish capital.
However, it is claimed that United are now at the head of the queue to sign the talented centre-back.
Manchester United’s summer preparations are in full swing now. After signing Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna on Sunday afternoon, the Red Devils kickstarted their pre-season schedule against Norway top-flight outfit Rosenborg.
Earlier this month, it was reported that the Red Devils had had a bid accepted by the French club but a decision by the player was what was delaying the move.
Real Madrid is understood to be his preference but the European champions are yet to agree a deal with Lille.
Fortunately for United, the race for the teenager’s signature is down to just two as PSG have reportedly backed out of the race.
According to RMC Sport, United are ‘pressing hard’ to land Yoro. PSG are pursuing a move for Joao Neves instead of Yoro meaning Ten Hag could miss out on the midfielder.
MEN Sport says: “The longer this saga goes on, the more likely United are to sign Yoro. Real Madrid may be the player’s preferred destination but their continued reluctance to reach an agreement with Lille will eventually put the defender off. How long until he gets the feeling that they’re not that keen?
“PSG backing away means United only have Madrid to compete with. The Parisians’ nature to spend big on players means they are always a threat when targeting players, as they have suffered with Neves.
“It leaves United with a greater chance to sign Yoro, so over to you Madrid.”
