Man United finally agree deal to sell Jadon Sancho amid Chelsea links

Manchester United have finally agreed a deal to sell Jadon Sancho after he emerged as a shock target for Premier League rivals Chelsea.

Sancho was signed by Manchester United for £73 million in 2021 from Borussia Dortmund, but the winger did not perform well at Old Trafford.

Sancho was transferred back to Dortmund on loan last season after two mainly unsuccessful seasons at United.

At the Bundesliga team, he appeared to find his form again and participated in the Champions League final.

Prior to the 2024–25 season, Erik ten Hag stated last month that he was prepared to reintegrate Sancho into his first-team squad after putting his ongoing spat with the 24-year-old on hold.

However, after United’s first two games of the new season, in which Sancho was not included in the starting lineup, that was hard to accept.

Sterling was ready to accept an offer from Manchester United which would have boosted Chelsea’s chances of signing Sancho but the Red Devils have now agreed a deal with another club.

United struck an agreement with Serie A giants Juventus on Wednesday over a deal for Sancho which will see him join on loan this season before completing a permanent move next summer, according to RMC Sport.

The deal will see Sancho play under Thiago Motta at Juventus, who are currently top of Serie A after two games. Juve have long been linked with a move for the United star.

Many Chelsea fans reacted with surprise at the prospect of Sancho moving to Stamford Bridge but former star John Obi Mikel endorsed the deal.

Obi Mikel – who won two Premier League titles, four FA Cups and the Champions League during his spell at Chelsea – said on his podcast: ‘If we can get him through the door at Chelsea, I’d be very, very happy.

‘He’s a fantastic player. I think on that side of the pitch, we’re very strong. But listen, if we can get a player like Jadon, of course, you’d be happy to have him. If that happens, I’d be very happy.’

Ten Hag, meanwhile, said Sancho would have to ‘compete’ for his place in the team after omitting him from his matchday squad to face Brighton.

Asked why Sancho did not even make the bench, he told TNT Sports before the game: ‘He’s here [at the stadium], but I had a choice to make.

‘We had some issues, we need a full squad. He’s one of them. He has to compete in his position.

‘Game-by-game we will have a look. We need two players in every position because it is a long season.’

Sancho looks set to finish his Manchester United career on 83 appearances and 12 goals
