Man United add ex-Real Madrid defender with €35 million release clause to transfer shortlist

Manchester United have reportedly identified former Real Madrid left-back Miguel Gutierrez as one of their transfer targets this summer.

The Spaniard is one of the seven names on United’s list for defensive reinforcements.

The Red Devils struggled massively due to injuries in the 2023-24 season. The likes of Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Harry Maguire all suffered injuries. Left-back Luke Shaw could make just 15 appearances while Tyrell Malacia didn’t play a single game.

Hence, as per TEAMtalk, Manchester United’s new co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe, along with his team, has identified Gutierrez as a potential signing.

The Spaniard had an excellent 2023-24 campaign with Girona as they qualified for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in their history. He scored two goals and provided nine assists in 40 games across competitions.

Gutierrez, 22, came through Real Madrid’s academy and made 10 senior appearances for them before moving to Girona in 2022.

He has since made 76 appearances, recording four goals and 13 assists to his name. He has a release clause worth €35 million in his contract, which is set to expire in 2027.

Manchester United have also identified six other targets in other defensive positions. They are Jean-Clair Todibo, Jarrad Branthwaite, Tosin Adarabioyo, Gleison Bremer, Jeremie Frimpong, and Denzel Dumfries.
