‘i will join Man United on one condition’ – Diego León breaks silence on Manchester United transfer approach

Man Utd are in talks to sign Diego León next year as they look to strengthen their options at full-back.

Diego León says he is aware of Manchester United’s transfer interest but insists he is fully focused on playing in the Copa Liberatdores with current club Cerro Porteño.

It is understood United are currently in talks with Paraguayan side Cerro Porteño for the 17-year-old left-back, who is viewed as one of the brightest talents in South America.

León turns 18 in April so would not be allowed to complete any move to Old Trafford until next summer at the earliest, though an agreement could still be reached before then.

Cerro Porteño are believed to want a fee in the region of £4 million, including add-ons, for his signature, while reports suggest talks are already underway over a fee worth £3 million.

There is a growing belief United could reach an agreement to sign the talented teenager, who is already aware of the interest from Manchester.

“I have a huge expectation to play the Libertadores 2025,” he reiterated when asked about the transfer rumours by Deportes Uno.

“I’ve seen about Manchester United’s enquiry about me, but I don’t know anything. Everything is handled by my agent.”

United are reportedly not the only side interested in signing León and club vice-president Juan Carlos Pettengill further confirmed the interest, but insisted there was nothing formal at this stage.

“If there were several surveys for some of our players, they asked about Diego León, our jewel but nothing formal,” Pettengill was quoted. “Diego León will play this semester at Cerro, he can’t leave before he turns 18 years old.”

León has made 19 senior appearances for Cerro Porteño ever since he was promoted from the club’s academy earlier in the calendar year.
