‘I really like him’ – Alan Shearer hails Man United star for ‘incredible’ moment against Luton

Alan Shearer believes the patience shown by Manchester United striker Ramus Hojlund is now paying off after his ‘incredible’ performance against Luton Town.

The Denmark international scored twice in the opening seven minutes as United picked up their fifth victory on the bounce on Sunday afternoon.

While scoring five times in the Champions League group stages, Hojlund waited four months before scoring his first Premier League goal – a late winner against Aston Villa at Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old has now scored in every league game he has been available for since then, taking his tally for the season to 13.

Hojlund gambled on an error from Amari’i Bell to slot home inside the opening minute against Luton and improvised brilliantly to turn Alejandro Garnacho’s shot into the back of the net off his chest to continue his red-hot form on Sunday.

Premier League legend Shearer hailed the ‘incredible’ bit of skill the Dane showed for the second, insisting he is now delivering on the huge potential he has shown.

‘At times I felt sorry for him because of the transfer fee and how difficult it has been for him in this United side that hasn’t been creating chances,’ Shearer told Match of the Day 2.

‘But the one thing that has been constant has been him getting into the right positions and not being afraid to miss. To take the chance and gamble [for the first goal], not many players would take that chance and break their neck to get there. It’s worked for him.

‘This is instinctive [for United’s second goal], you have a split second to think about that and twist your body and it’s an incredible finish.

‘His work rate, bringing others into the game, the amount of passes in the final third was brilliant. You have got to lead that line when your teammates are relying on you. He was unlucky not to get his hat-trick.

‘I really like him. His shot conversation rate is very good. It has been very rough at times but he’s been patent and he’s getting his rewards.’

Shearer added: ‘The two wingers on either side kept cutting in, they weren’t creating chances for him at all.

‘But he has never panicked and kept getting into those positions and now he is getting his rewards for doing that and he is looking a really good player.’
