‘Go back to Manchester United’… Club legend slams Man utd loanee as the left-back fails to impress
Manchester United have more than a dozen players out on loan, with varying degrees of success.
Antony has been an absolute hit at Real Betis, while Marcus Rashford is back playing football against Aston Villa after losing his motivation at Manchester United.
On the other hand, Jadon Sancho’s form at Chelsea has dipped, with United thankful there is a £25 million obligation clause.
At PSV Eindhoven, Tyrell Malacia has had an opportunity on loan. And he has not quite grasped it so far.
Tyrell Malacia started just his second Eredivisie game at the weekend for PSV, and it was a 3-2 defeat to Go Ahead Eagles.
In a discussion about the team’s defending, PSV legend Rene Van de Kerkhof made clear he is not at all impressed.
Van de Kerkhof won the title three times for PSV in the 70s, playing more than 270 games for the Dutch club.
He was quoted via Voetbal Zone speaking to the Omroep Brabant podcast: “Against Go Ahead on Saturday, all three goals conceded were big mistakes in the defense.
“A Malacia like that is really a bad buy. I don’t want to see him again!
“He should just go back to Manchester United, get rid of him. You can also blame technical director Earnest Stewart for that, he should have taken a closer look at him.”
As a former Feyenoord player, Malacia was already on an uphill battle to convince PSV supporters. His early form will not have helped.
Champions League disaster for Tyrell Malacia
It is unlikely Tyrell Malacia will have changed Rene Van de Kerkhof’s mind after featuring in a Champions League nightmare for PSV.
The Dutch talent had helped PSV reach the last 16 with an extra-time win over Juventus, and his reward as a 90 minutes to forget against Arsenal.
PSV were thrashed 7-1 at home to Arsenal in the first leg of their tie, 3-1 down at half-time, and it got worse in the second 45 minutes.
Malacia picked up a booking, but the entire team were terrible, and the United loanee actually created three goalscoring chances. But this was an embarrassing night.
The only consolation is that Van de Kerkhof will likely want to send the entire PSV XI away somewhere after their defeat.
PSV have an option to buy Malacia for £8.3 million. He is yet to put together a convincing case
