Chris Sutton names £50m striker who will be a ‘good fit’ for Man United this summer
Chris Sutton has named a £50m striker who’d be a ‘good fit’ for Manchester United and has urged the club to sign him in the summer transfer window.
Joshua Zirkzee from Bologna has already joined the Red Devils, but Erik ten Hag’s team is eager to add another forward before the August 30 deadline.
Several elite players, such as Dominic Calvert-Lewin of Everton, Evan Ferguson of Brighton, and Ivan Toney of Brentford, have been linked to United. Toney, a football analyst and former player, is the Premier League player whom Sutton finds most impressive.
In the face of competition from Saudi Pro League teams, Toney is pleading with United to finalize a transfer right away.
The England international is reportedly being sought by the Bees for at least £50 million; however, United is seeking a “PSR-friendly deal” that would first see Toney on loan, much like Arsenal did with Brentford’s David Raya
‘Manchester United are strikerless at this moment in time, he (Ivan Toney) would be a good fit there,’ Sutton told the BBC’s Monday Night Club.
‘He has proven himself in the Premier League and he has all the attributes. His link up, his physicality, set-piece [ability] and his all-round play have developed really well. At this stage of his career, I think Saudi is a no-no.
‘You can have all the money in the world but this is Ivan Toney at his peak and I would like to see him stay in the Premier League… I would [only] go to Saudi Arabia when I was 35 and past it.
‘That doesn’t mean he can’t go to Saudi and then come back to the Premier League, but why doesn’t he just wait another season and then get a move?
‘He’s 28, his career was flourishing then he had the ban, but then he had the high of the Euros this summer.
‘He is in a really good place at the moment. From Brentford’s point of view, at £50m, you can understand why they would sell him for that amount with a year left on his contract.’
