Man United inch closer to signing 23-year-old Uruguayan star midfielder very open to Old Trafford move

Manchester United are reportedly “closer and closer” to landing 23-year-old Uruguayan midfielder Manuel Ugarte from Ligue 1 club Paris Saint-Germain.

According to reputed French journalist Santi Aouna, Manuel Ugarte is the subject of interest from Manchester United.

Manchester United are keen on landing the PSG midfielder in the summer transfer window and they are “closer and closer” to signing the 23-year-old from the Ligue 1 champions.

After moving from Sporting CP to Paris Saint-Germain for €60 million last summer, Manuel Ugarte has had a wild journey.

The Ligue 1 winners won the race to sign the Uruguayan international, who was a coveted commodity in the market following a strong stint with Sporting CP.

The 23-year-old had a strong debut for PSG and was a mainstay for Les Parisiens during the first part of the 2023–24 campaign.

But Ugarte’s playing time steadily decreased, and over the last few months of the season, he was inconsistent in the starting lineup.

As a result, he was unable to accrue even 2,500 minutes of game time throughout his 37 appearances across all competitions.

The former Sporting CP midfielder’s situation has piqued the interest of several high-profile clubs across Europe.

But Manchester United should be his next destination in the summer transfer window.

The Red Devils have been scouring the market for a holding midfielder heading into the summer transfer window after Casemiro struggled in the 2023/24 season.

So, the PSG midfielder has emerged as a viable target for Manchester United.

Recent reports have claimed that the 23-year-old Ligue 1 winner would love to join Manchester United in the summer transfer window. The latest update has revealed that Ugarte is “closer and closer” to moving to Old Trafford.

PSG will likely look to recoup most of the €60 million they paid to secure Manuel Ugarte’s services in the summer transfer window. It will be interesting to see if Manchester United are ready to cough up close to €60 million to land the Uruguayan international
