(4-2-3-1) Man United predicted starting XI vs FC Porto; Early team news and injury updates in Europa League

Manchester United midfielder Kobbie Mainoo trained with the squad on Wednesday morning after his injury scare against Tottenham.

Prior to halftime in Sunday’s dismal loss to Spurs at Old Trafford, Mainoo was substituted, leaving through the tunnel immediately after Bruno Fernandes received a straight red card.

There are serious concerns over the 19-year-old’s fitness ahead of two important games this week after footage purportedly showed him telling Johnny Evans he had injured his hamstring.

Erik ten Hag needs a quick response from his team in order to keep his job when United travels to Porto in the Europa League on Thursday and then travels to Aston Villa on Sunday.

The England international’s return to the training field will be a much-needed boost for United, despite the manager’s admission that there were “concerns” regarding Mainoo following his forced departure over the weekend.

Mainoo has been almost ever-present in United’s engine room this season, playing the full 90 in four of his side’s five league games before coming off early against Spurs.

Mason Mount was brought on to replace Mainoo that afternoon but was forced off himself late on in the contest after suffering a nasty cut following a clash of heads with Radu Dragusin.

The former Chelsea midfielder received stitches after the game but was not pictured in Wednesday’s training sessions and will be considered a doubt for the trip to Porto.

Harry Maguire meanwhile was back in training after missing the Tottenham game through injury.

United are set to remain without left-backs Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia.
