£30m-rated star midfielder verbally agrees to join Manchester United as Ugarte Alternative

With their season starting in a few days, Manchester United’s midfield choices don’t exactly inspire confidence.

The previous season, the Red Devils had trouble in the middle of the park as Casemiro appeared terribly out of character due to his inability to adapt to the Premier League’s fast-paced environment.

Preseason play has followed that pattern, and as INEOS is stuck with the Brazilian, there hasn’t been any progress on a deal to sign top defensive midfield target Manuel Ugarte.

Due to financial difficulties, United must sell players in order to obtain the money needed to sign the Uruguayan.

Paris Saint-Germain’s asking price is well beyond United and they have exited the race and will only consider coming back in should the Ligue 1 club lower their asking price.

Berge transfer verbally agreed
One of the alternatives being eyed by the 20-time English league champions is Sander Berge of Burnley who impressed in the English top-flight last season despite his club suffering relegation.

The Norwegian is keen to sign for the Old Trafford side and as per TeamTalk, he has verbally agreed to join Erik ten Hag’s side.

Agreeing personal terms is not expected to be an issue and INEOS are preparing a lucrative bid for the 26-year-old. Whether Burnley will accept is a different ball game altogether.

As relayed by The Peoples Person earlier, the Clarets have already raised their asking price by £10 million.

They want £30 million but the three-time Champions League winners are readying an offer in the range of £25 million including add-ons.

“Manchester United have taken a step towards making Burnley midfielder Sander Berge their third major signing of the summer, with TEAMtalk exclusively learning the Norwegian has said yes to joining and a tempting bid is being prepared.

Fee remains an issue
“We understand the 26-year-old Norway international has said yes to signing with Man Utd and as such, personal terms will not be an issue. All eyes are now on whether Man Utd agree a transfer fee with the Championship club.

“Reports claim Burnley hope to collect £30m, though we have been told Man Utd are readying a bit worth a total of £25m. That £25m figure would be inclusive of the add-ons part of the deal.”
