Sir Jim Ratcliffe creates a three-striker shortlist for Man United this summer to compete with Rasmus Hojlund

As Manchester United look to increase their attacking output, new owners INEOS have shortlisted three strikers as potential forward signings this summer.

Despite signing Rasmus Højlund last summer, more forwards are set to join Manchester United this summer to provide support for the young Dane.

While Michael Olise, a long-term target for United, will likely be pursued, INEOS will also be looking to sign a striker ahead of Anthony Martial’s expected departure this summer.

And, according to GiveMeSport, new owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has drawn up a three-man shortlist ahead of the transfer window.

RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko, who has recently been linked with a move to Arsenal, revealed in a recent interview that United tried to sign him before his move to Germany last summer.

And it looks like the Red Devils could once again be pursuing the 20-year-old Slovenian who has scored seven goals and assisted two in 23 matches for Leipzig.

Earlier this month, United scouts travelled to Bologna to scout 22-year-old striker Joshua Zirkzee, who is believed to be another name on the Ineos shortlist.

The Dutchman has scored an impressive 10 goals and assisted three in his second season with the Serie A club and is praised for his ability to drop deep and play as a number 10.

With the media comparing the youngster to former United icons Dimitar Berbatov and Zlatan Ibrahimovic, it’s no surprise that INEOS are interested.

Within the Premier League, Evan Ferguson is also being considered as the final name of the three-man shortlist.

The young Irishman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for a while after enjoying a breakout season for Brighton and Hove Albion last season.

While his performances this season haven’t quite been as impressive, scoring just six goals in 26 Premier League appearances, the 19-year-old is widely regarded as one of the most exciting young strikers in the world and therefore, would demand a high fee.

Sesko and Zirkzee will be available for under £50million, whereas Ferguson, due to interest from other clubs, would likely cost United £80-100m.

While all three are perhaps more expensive than United fans would like, the club see the young trio as cheaper alternatives to Victor Osimhen who is demanding £250,000 a week in wages if he were to come to Old Trafford.

However, to facilitate moves for Sesko, Zirkzee or Ferguson a clear-out of the current squad may be needed to comply with the controversial Financial Fair Play regulations.

Despite enjoying what could be considered the best season of his United career, Scott McTominay is seen as expendable by INEOS, who are banking on West Ham United’s continued interest in the Scot, following a bid made last summer.

Casemiro, Jadon Sancho, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Mason Greenwood, Antony, and Donny van de Beek are also reportedly among the players Manchester United may consider selling this summer, provided a suitable offer comes through.
