Ruben Amorim sends five-word Chido Obi message Man United fans will love vs Wolves
Ruben Amorim could make plenty of changes to his Manchester United side when they return to action against Wolves in the Premier League this weekend. United were pushed to the limit as they came from behind to defeat Lyon 5-4 in the Europa League on Thursday night, in a chaotic match that let many players physically and emotionally drained.
Wolves have not played since a 4-2 victory over Tottenham last Sunday, a game that kicked off before United lost 4-1 to Newcastle at St. James’ Park. United made five changes to their side for the epic Lyon win, though few players were afforded any rest in a match that went the distance at Old Trafford.
Andre Onana, Harry Maguire, Leny Yoro, Diogo Dalot, Casemiro and Bruno Fernandes each played the entirety of the gruelling contest and will all have to be managed carefully when they welcome Wolves this weekend.
Manchester United team news vs Wolves
Speaking at his pre-match press conference, Ruben Amorim issued a Manchester United squad update for their upcoming home match against Wolves. “I have to see it,” he told reporters. “Players like Dalot – they are always ready but today he was really tired. The guys that are recent to have an injury, we will try to save them. We will see tomorrow (Friday).”
United named academy trio Jaydan Kamason, Godwill Kukonki and Jack Moorhouse on the bench for their midweek victory over Lyon, though none of the teenagers were risked in what was a high-pressure environment. They could all feature when the stakes are lower this weekend, but Amorim is mindful over how he manages academy players during a difficult season.
“It’s not the best moment or the best season to put some kids to play because again they need a strong base to really show what they can do, but in this moment we need to do it. And sometimes you have surprises. Ayden just played – and I can be honest – because we had a lot of injuries in that moment, but today I think of Ayden as my player, so when he’s ready he’s facing competition in the team and he’s ready to play, so you don’t know. Amass did really well today, so we don’t know. Chido, when he played he played quite well. It’s a difficult moment, it’s not the right moment for the kids to play, but if we have to do it we will do it.”
