Patrick Dorgu reveals Ruben Amorim is urging him to build “connections” with four Man United players
According to Patrick Dorgu, Ruben Amorim is pushing him to establish close bonds with four of his Manchester United colleagues.
Patrick Dorgu was Manchester United’s first significant acquisition under Ruben Amorim during the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old, who reportedly paid £25 million to move from Italian team Lecce, was the kind of player Old Trafford needed following Amorim’s arrival. The absence of attacking options at wingback had been one of the United manager’s main problems, and Dorgu met that need.
Although the young Danish player has shown promise in his first few games, he had a terrible performance against Ipswich Town, helping to give them a goal before being sent off shortly after.
Dorgu reveals Amorim wants him to build connection with four United teammates
Dorgu is a young player and will undoubtably improve going forward. He offers United something on the left flank that other options currently do not.
The young player is also a big admirer of his new head coach, who he paid close attention to during his time in Portugal and believes he fits the demands of a wingback in his system.
“I saw what Ruben did at Sporting and I could see the ideas he had. It is a very attacking system, I want to get into the box and score goals,” he says. “I also like to defend.”
As mentioned before, there is still a lot of room for improvement and Amorim has been speaking to the wide player about things he needs to shine at Old Trafford.
One of the most important things for Dorgu to do is build connections with several teammates – we have seen him get ignored on the overlap quite a lot so far.
In particular, Amorim wants his January signing to get good relationships with both of the no.10s in the system, as well as the two central midfield players.
“He talks about the connection with the other players, especially the midfielders and the two No 10s and about making deep runs and on my movement,” continued Dorgu.
Dorgu still has one game remaining on his three-match suspension after that red card but is still available for the all-important Europa League clash against Real Sociedad.
His ban only applies to domestic fixtures, which is a big plus for Amorim, especially after he confirmed that Harry Maguire and Leny Yoro are ruled out of the tie.
Noussair Mazraoui will be able to move into the back three while Dorgu is reintroduced on the left flank, with Diogo Dalot moving across to the other side.
Amorim will likely have to choose between Victor Lindelöf and Ayden Heaven for the third centre-back spot alongside Mazraoui and Matthijs de Ligt.
After making a positive impression in his first few fixtures, Dorgu could be eyeing this game as an opportunity to properly introduce himself to United supporters
