Manchester United make ‘sudden’ £40m move to sign former Man City midfielder

According to sources in Germany, Manchester United is getting ready to make a deal for Felix Nmecha, a midfielder for Borussia Dortmund.

After arriving from Wolfsburg, the 24-year-old is in his second season at Dortmund. He made his professional debut with Manchester City before being released in 2021.

Dortmund, however, is now in 11th position in the Bundesliga and may not qualify for the Champions League the next season.

If the Bundesliga team can’t hold onto their spot in Europe’s top club competition, they might have to let go of some of their best players, including Jamie Gittens and Karim Adeyemi.

The report describes United’s interest as ‘sudden’ and claims Ruben Amorim’s side would be prepared to offer €48 million (£40.1m).

Bild add that despite potentially missing out on Champions League football next season, Dortmund would be reluctant to sell.

Dortmund are also in a strong negotiating position as the midfielder will still have three years remaining on his contract at the end of the season.

Nmecha has not played for Dortmund since January 25 due to a knee ligament injury but the German club are hopeful that the midfielder will return after the international break and will be available for the first leg of their Champions League quarter-final tie against Barcelona on April 9.

Nmecha, who operates as a box-to-box midfielder, has five goals and four assists in 56 appearances for Dortmund
