Man Utd target £60m-rated sensational Brentford Forward as well as Matheus Cunha

When the competition for Bryan Mbeumo, a forward valued at £60 million from Brentford, heats up during the summer transfer window, Manchester United is prepared to enter the fray.

At the end of the season, Premier League teams are anticipated to make bids for Mbeumo, 25, who is reportedly a top target for United in their pursuit of strengthening Ruben Amorim’s team.

The French-born Cameroon international has been linked to Liverpool in past transfer windows, but Newcastle United is reportedly very interested in him, according to a report from Telegraph Sport last week.

As Amorim tries to assemble his squad for his first preseason and full season at Old Trafford, United is expected to be active in the transfer market.

He had admitted it was a risk to allow Marcus Rashford and Antony to leave in the January window but their departures were for the good of the team, with the inference that he is planning long-term without them.

Wolves striker Matheus Cunha, who has a £65 million buyout clause, is a target for United in the summer but has been most effective through the middle as a No 9. Interest in Mbeumo is independent of the Cunha deal, with the former Troyes forward regarded as one of the best wide forwards in the Premier League.

United have been mindful of Premier League profit and sustainability rules after making losses over the last five years, although they could raise money from sales with Rashford and Antony increasing their market value during respective loans at Aston Villa and Real Betis.

Mbeumo, who played against United on Sunday in a 4-3 Premier League win at the Gtech Community Stadium, was signed from Troyes in 2019 for around £5.8 million and has proved himself to be among Brentford’s most shrewd signings, helping them earn promotion from the Championship before establishing himself in the top flight and scoring 18 goals this season.

Brentford sold Ivan Toney to Saudi Arabian club Al-Ahli last summer and manager Thomas Frank has admitted Mbeumo could eventually leave.

“If the price is right – and that’s going to be expensive – is coming, then I’m sure the club will be open to it,” Frank told Sky Sports earlier this season. “I’ve said many times: we are a selling club. But at the same time we have to reinforce that there are 10 clubs in the world who aren’t selling clubs.”
