Man Utd plot Barcelona hijack for ‘next Jude Bellingham’ as transfer meeting planned

Manchester United are keen to bolster their ranks this month, with acquisitions being targeted in every department

Manchester United have reportedly scheduled meetings with Lucas Bergvall’s camp as they attempt to lure him to Old Trafford.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with a move away from Swedish side Djurgardens this month, with clubs around Europe keen to acquire his services.

United have endured a miserable start to the season, winning just 10 of their 21 league matches so far.

Erik ten Hag has come under pressure as a result, with serious questions being raised about his tactics and, especially, his recruitment.

The Red Devils have forked out monumental fees on underperforming stars in recent transfer windows, with Andre Onana and Antony the latest stars to join their growing list of questionable acquisitions.

Sir Jim Ratcliffe is keen to rejig the recruitment department now that he has purchased a 25 per cent stake in his boyhood side, and changes are expected thick and fast.

The INEOS owner could be set to make a marquee move to kickstart his tenure, with 90min reporting that United are firmly in the race to sign Bergvall.

The 17-year-old is one of Europe’s most sought-after youngsters having already featured on the international stage for Sweden.

Barcelona are pushing hard to sign the playmaker and Djurgardens sporting director Bo Andersson has confirmed that talks have taken place about a deal.

An agreement has not been reached, however, and United are starting to amp up their interest as a result. It is claimed that Bergvall’s entourage are set to meet with representatives of the Red Devils soon to sound out their intentions, having previously had the midfielder train with their youth team.

Bergvall is a United supporter and the prospect of playing at the Theatre of Dreams could prove decisive, though a firm decision has not been made by any party.

Borussia Dortmund and Eintracht Frankfurt are also in the picture, and both clubs would be able to guarantee Bergvall regular first-team opportunities.
