Manchester United could be in the market to land Crystal Palace star Jean-Philippe Mateta, according to reports – with the Red Devils having ‘made initial contact’ over his potential signing, alongside the Eagles already having a replacement lined up in the event of his departure

The report by CaughtOffside states that Mateta is one of United’s top targets, and initial contact has been made with the Frenchman, who scored his 14th Premier League goal of the season with a wonderful goal from distance against Arsenal on Wednesday evening – whilst TBR Football have relayed the same information.

There is plenty of interest in Mateta, and Palace are thought to already have a replacement lined up in case they lose the 27-year-old star this summer – and that could give United the green light to sign him.

It’s not just United who are in the market for his services, with Bayern Munich and Juventus being linked, but Mateta is thought to be ‘up there’ as a top target alongside Victor Osimhen and Matheus Cunha as one of the transfer targets United want to bring in up front.

If United can land the in-demand star, it could see them challenge for European spaces next season to firmly put their name back in the top-half after a horror season
