Man Utd ‘make contact’ with Bayern Munich over £30m star striker signing

18-year-old Frenchman capable of playing all across the frontline
Red Devils in the transfer market for new striker

Manchester United have ‘made contact’ with Bayern Munich over the signing of striker Mathys Tel, according to a report from Germany.

Tel turns 19 in April and is only into his second season as a Bayern player having only joined from Rennes in 2022, but he has caught the eye of clubs across Europe during his limited appearances in Bavaria.

Sky Sports Germany report United have been in contact regarding the Frenchman’s availability, with two other unnamed Premier League sides also making enquiries recently.

United’s desire to bring in a new forward has been public – manager Erik ten Hag has expressed his frustration the club did not have the requisite funds to sign one in January – and Tel is on their list of options for the upcoming transfer window.

Ironically, the Red Devils held talks with Tottenham Hotspur last summer over Harry Kane prior to his move to Bayern.

However, the report adds Tel is determined to stay and fight for his place at Bayern with the aim of becoming a legend at the club, even though the reigning German champions intend to sign a new striker to replace the veteran Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting this summer.

Tel, who is capable of playing all across the frontline, has registered six goals and three assists in 27 games across all competitions for Bayern this season, though most of these appearances have been from the bench.

He notably scored in their 4-3 win against United in the group stages of the Champions League in September.

90min reported earlier this week United’s new shareholders INEOS are still busy identifying positions that they need to strengthen in this summer as they begin their overhaul of the club’s internal structure.

However, they are definitely on the hunt for an experienced striker, while they have endorsed the Red Devils’ long-standing pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
