Man Utd keen to beat Arsenal to signing Bayer Leverkusen star full back with 7goals & 10 assists who Ten Hag wants

Manchester United must beat Arsenal to the signing of Bayer Leverkusen defender Jeremie Frimpong this summer.

The Dutchman had a superb 2022/23 season for the Bundesliga giants. He registered nine goals and 11 assists from 48 outings from the right wing-back and right-back roles.

The 23-year-old has fared even better this term with seven goals and 10 assists from 22 appearances and there are no surprises that a number of top European clubs are keeping tabs on him.

United are one of his long-term admirers, but a recent report from Fichajes has claimed that Arsenal are determined to sign him by triggering his €40 million release clause this summer.

The Red Devils must beat the Gunners to the services of the former Celtic ace. United manager Erik ten Hag is reportedly a keen admirer of the versatile full-back.

Frimpong would be United’s first-choice right-back

Ten Hag currently has Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka as his right-back options, but there is a possibility that the latter could head through the exit door this summer.

United recently triggered a one-year extension clause in the contract of Wan-Bissaka to keep him until June 2025. The 25-year-old has yet to be convinced to pen a new long-term deal.

It is still premature to talk about his future, but it has been claimed that he could be used as a makeweight by United as they look to sign Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise this summer.

Frimpong may not be defensively solid as Wan-Bissaka, but he is a clear upgrade in the offensive department. The Dutchman likes to make regular overlapping runs operating from right wing-back.

He also has the ability to play as a traditional right-back. He has a stunning 17 goal contributions so far this term which is a vastly superior statistic to Dalot, who has only three.

Of course, the Premier League may present a stiffer challenge for Frimpong, but we have already seen a similar player in Pedro Porro find plenty of success at Tottenham Hotspur.

Porro has already registered four goals and 10 assists for Spurs since arriving last winter from Sporting. We believe Frimpong could have a similar impact at United if he joins them.
