Man United’s fresh stance on Thomas Tuchel amid talks on Erik ten Hag future
Although Thomas Tuchel was the front-runner to succeed Erik ten Hag at Manchester United in the summer, there has been no new communication with the former Chelsea manager as the Old Trafford board meets.
Given that Erik ten Hag’s status as head coach is still unknown, Manchester United has not launched a new bid for Thomas Tuchel.
Only newly promoted Southampton had scored fewer goals than United as we approach the second international break of the season after seven league games played.
The former Chelsea manager would be eager to return to the Premier League as he is now unemployed following his departure from Bayern Munich at the end of last season.
But there is no sign of conversations between his representatives and the Old Trafford club reopening. United have also been linked with recently-departed England manager Gareth Southgate and Inter Milan coach Simone Inzaghi.
Ten Hag is taking a brief holiday early in the international break and believes he retains the backing of United’s board. Tuesday’s meeting had already been scheduled with Sir Jim Ratcliffe keen on hosting a monthly get together.
After the bore draw away to Aston Villa on Sunday, the under-pressure Dutchman said: “We are all on board together, on one page, we know what we are working through. It’s a long-term process.
“It’s external noise. Internally we’re disappointed and we know we have to do better. Especially we need to score more. But I don’t have any idea it is different, because they would tell me. We communicate and are very transparent.”
