Man United to consider January offers for £86M Ten Hag signing who ‘wants to leave’ Man Utd in January -Reports
Despite showing some encouraging signs following Ruben Amorim’s arrival, Manchester United would be happy to sell Antony for the right offer in January.
The Red Devils splashed £86 million in the summer of 2022 to acquire the services of the 24-year-old winger, based on the request of their former manager Erik ten Hag.
The two men had enjoyed an excellent collaboration during their time together at Ajax, but their reunion on English soil proved less fruitful. The manager has already been shown the door after an abysmal start to the current campaign, and the Brazilian star could follow suit.
According to Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Red Devils are ready to sacrifice the Brazil international if they were to receive a suitable offer in January.
Man United willing to offload Antony next month
Bayindir joined from Turkish giants Fenerbahce in a deal worth £4.3m in the summer of 2023 but he has only made three appearances in all competitions and has yet to play a Premier League match for Man Utd.
The Daily Mail reported on December 3 that Man Utd were hoping to keep the Turkey international until the end of the season but could be forced to sell in January as Bayindir seeks more playing time.
The report claimed:
“United are assessing their goalkeeping options in case No 2 Altay Bayindir leaves during the January transfer window.
“The Turkey international moved to Old Trafford from Fenerbahce in the summer of 2023 for £4.3m as back-up to Andre Onana, and has only made three appearances in the domestic cup competitions
“Bayindir, 26, is known to want more first-team football and was linked with a move to Celtic in the summer. Confidential understands that United would prefer to wait until the end of the season to replace him, but will be ready to move in January if needed.
“United could look to bring in a new goalkeeper in January if Altay Bayindir (pictured) leaves. They are looking at younger alternatives to veteran Tom Heaton and are keeping an eye on Sunderland keeper Anthony Patterson, although the 24-year-old is also of interest to Tottenham.”
The source notes that the club has indeed noticed the recent improvement made by the former Ajax star, however, this might not be sufficient to salvage his Old Trafford stint.
Over the past two campaigns, Antony became synonymous with extravagant dribbling, and was often ridiculed for his flamboyant style which lacked substance (at least since his arrival at Man United).
This season, the Brazilian has thus far made seven appearances across all competitions, including three in the Premier League, but never as a starter. He only has one goal to his name this term.
And with Amad Diallo lighting up the right flank, Antony is unlikely to lock himself a starting berth in Amorim 3-4-2-1 system, but might have to settle for a backup role, which is why the club would reportedly consider selling him if the right opportunity presents itself.
