Man United stance on Mason Greenwood return revealed as Real Madrid, Barcelona track ‘exceptional’ forward -Report

Mason Greenwood’s start to life at Marseille has attracted interest from a trio of European giants and a transfer move would bring a welcome boost to Manchester United’s finances

Mason Greenwood only joined Marseille in the summer, but already three major European teams are interested in him.

Greenwood, a Manchester United player, was charged with attempted rape, controlling and coercive behavior, and assault resulting in actual bodily harm after his detention in October 2022.

He has five goals in four games since joining the French team, sparking an improbable Ligue 1 title chase. It seems that potential suitors are taking notice of his performances.

Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid, and Barcelona are all keeping an eye on the striker, according to talkSPORT. Scouts from Marseille have been despatched to observe the Englishman in action for all three teams.

If Marseille were to sell him, former club United would be in line for a windfall. The Red Devils inserted a hefty sell-on clause into the £26.6million deal which took Greenwood to France in the summer.

He is already the third-most expensive sale of an academy player in United’s history. Barca have been keeping tabs on the 22-year-old for some time, with Atletico having also scouted him last season.

Both opted against making a formal in the summer, allowing Marseille to swoop in. Bayern’s interest comes despite the German giants already having England skipper Harry Kane on their books.

Meanwhile, Greenwood is currently the top scorer in Ligue 1 and was named Marseille’s player of the month for August. Greenwood will next be in action on Sunday when Marseille travel to Lyon, with a win taking them top should PSG lose to Reims on Saturday night.

Roberto De Zerbi’s men will be travelling without their fans though. The outgoing minister of the interior Gérald Darmanin has issued a decree banning the travel of Marseille supporters to the Groupama Stadium for Sunday’s game.
