Man United Rejected by world class Serie A midfielder ahead of summer transfer window

Inter Milan star Nicolo Barella has rejected a move to Manchester United.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, Barella has snubbed interest from United, Arsenal and Liverpool and is instead set to sign a new contract with Inter.

He will sign a new contract until 2029 and will receive a pay increase from €6 million a season to €7m plus bonuses.

This comes as a big blow to Man Utd, who had earmarked Barella as an ideal target for the centre of midfield this summer.

The Italy international is widely regarded as one of the best in Europe in his role as a box-to-box all-action midfielder.

A number of top Premier League clubs already made moves for him in the summer of 2023, including Chelsea and Man City, but Inter made it clear they had no intention of selling.

Barella and his family are life-long supporters of Inter and he has a special affinity with the club.

He is expected by many to finish his career at San Siro.

He played a key role again this season as Inter stormed to another Scudetto under Simone Inzaghi.

He also enjoyed a fantastic Champions League season last term as Inter finished runners-up to Manchester City. This saw Barella nominated on the 30-man shortlist for the 2023 Ballon d’Or.

He has made 230 appearances for Inter since joining from Cagliari in 2019.
