Man United reignite interest in €80m-rated Sporting CP star midfielder as Ugarte, Amrabat alternative
According to reports, Manchester United has rekindled their interest in Morten Hjulmand, a talented player for Sporting, as a substitute for top target Manuel Ugarte.
Ugarte is “keen on moving” to Old Trafford, according to reports, and the two parties have “agreed personal terms.”
There have even been rumors that the transfer is “about to be completed.”
However, given that Man Utd is currently hesitant to pay PSG’s €70 million asking price for Ugarte, there appears to be a valuation discrepancy.
This has given rise to rumors that Monaco may have manipulated AC Milan’s attempt to sign Youssouf Fofana, despite Monaco having recently raised their asking price.
The report states that ‘Hjulmand is thought to be less aggressive than Ugarte and there is an appreciation of his good positional discipline and his experience working in a possession-based side’.
United were heavily linked with the Denmark international – who scored a stunning goal to earn a draw with England at Euro 2024 – in the January transfer window and even went as far as offering Facundo Pellistri in exchange.
But it’s strange that United’s interest remains given their reluctance to spend €70m on Ugarte as Hjulmand is protected by an €80m release clause, though there have been rumours that Sporting would accept players in exchange as well as a significant chunk of that transfer fee
