Man united receive huge boost as Bayern Munich director breaks silence on Matthijs De Ligt to Man United

Bayern Munich sporting director Max Eberl has broken his silence on Matthijs De Ligt’s transfer links to Manchester United.

The Netherlands international surfaced as a potential target earlier in the transfer season, but supporters believed that any aspirations the team had of acquiring another center-back would be dashed when the Red Devils had acquired Leny Yoro from Lille, Erik Ten Hag’s first significant defensive acquisition.

But that hasn’t really happened. Yoro’s unlucky preseason foot injury has forced United to return to the transfer market in search of another senior center-back, as he is expected to be out for several months. Matthijs De Ligt and Manchester United are discussed by Bayern Munich.

Furthermore, De Ligt, a former Juventus defender who collaborated with Ten Hag at Ajax, seems excited to play at Old Trafford and put himself to the test in the Premier League.

“I will comment on that (possible move to Manchester United) when the time comes. It’s not that time yet,” he told Sky Sports.

“Matthijs played very well here for two years and that’s why many fans like him.

“Nevertheless, you have to think about how you decide and also how the boy feels. He is still a player for FC Bayern. And as long as he is, he will get all the support from us.”

Manchester United are believed to be working on multiple outgoings of their own. Scott McTominay remains heavily linked with a move to Fulham with Aaron Wan-Bissaka closing in on a transfer that would see him become West Ham’s fifth signing of the summer.
