Man United receive Eberechi Eze transfer ‘twist’ as Erik Ten Hag gives huge injury updates ahead of Carabao cup on Tuesday
Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag relieved plenty of pressure off his shoulders on Saturday as the Reds triumphed against Southampton.
The Reds’ dominance over Russell Martin’s team was evident for the majority of the match, but Andre Onana’s save of Cameron Archer’s penalty kick on minute thirty proved to be crucial.
After that, United were able to gain confidence as goals from Alejandro Garnacho, Marcus Rashford, and Matthijs de Ligt secured a comfortable three points. It won’t be long till United plays their Carabao Cup home opener against Barnsley.
To begin your Sunday morning, MEN Sport has examined two of the club’s most significant stories from the previous weekend.
Eze twist
According to Give Me Sport, United are not currently looking at Eze as an option to bolster their squad. It is believed by the publication that the Reds are searching for cheaper alternatives to avoid splashing a big amount on just one player.
Matthijs de Ligt needed two minutes to prove Erik ten Hag right about Manchester United signing
What MEN Sport says: We reported at the beginning of the week that United were interested in bringing Eze to the club next summer.
The theory that Ineos are not comfortable of spending huge amounts on just one player does make sense – Sir Jim Ratcliffe wants the Reds to be more economical after all.
However, the club are not averse to spending significant sums if they are confident those players can add value to the team. It will be up to Eze to prove to United that he is worth his £68m release clause between now and the end of the season.
Man United injury issues back again
It was nearly the perfect Saturday for United but of course, there is always something to come along and potentially ruin it. On this occasion, it appears the issue to bring the fans back down to earth surrounds injuries.
Both Lisandro Martinez and Noussair Mazraoui hobbled off during the win this weekend and Ten Hag has admitted they will need to be assessed over the next couple of days.
What MEN Sport says: The thing which springs to mind first after hearing the news about further injuries is what Gary Neville said on the opening day of the season.
Eventually, the Reds cannot use injuries as an excuse for bad performances. With the ever increasing demands of the football schedule, United have to find ways to manage that with the realisation it is unlikely to get any better.
