Man United ready to seal the signing of 19-goals/assists Serie A forward with quick sale of £30m-rated star
Man United are looking to speed up the signing of Joshua Zirkzee, raising the funds for the transfer by selling Mason Greenwood.
Manchester United have been heavily linked with a move to bring in Joshua Zirkzee recently, with the Dutch striker seemingly atop Erik ten Hag’s wishlist this coming summer.
The Bologna man is currently away with the Netherlands at the European Championships, after performing well for his club in Serie A during the 2023/24 campaign.
It feels like Ten Hag is desperate to replace Anthony Martial’s minutes with someone who can push Rasmus Hojlund hard for starts. Having that healthy competition in the squad could be vital for a successful league campaign.
Now, the I Newspaper have provided more insight in regard to United’s move to bring in Zirkzee. In their headline, it is claimed that United hope to ‘fast-track’ the signing of the 12-goal striker.
Obviously, Greenwood remains at the club for the time being, though there is absolutely no way back for the Englishman.
Man United want to sell the forward for a large transfer fee, hoping to earn at least £30m from his sale – which they can directly use to activate the £33.8m release clause in Zirkzee’s Bologna contract.
Signing a new forward is a ‘top priority’ for United, though they will not sell Greenwood on the cheap, despite his contract expiring in 2025.
It’s great to see Sir Jim Ratcliffe trying to lay some new ground rules for the Old Trafford side, who have been notoriously bad sellers for multiple years at this point.
This feels like a smart way to operate, as United ensure they comply with Premier League spending rules. Honestly, if the Reds can generate in excess of £30m for Greenwood, I’d be mightily impressed
