Man United ‘reach’ surprise Jadon Sancho decision as next transfer target revealed

Man United are reportedly considering a move for Nottingham Forest and former-Liverpool star Neco Williams.

The wing-back made the transfer to Forest in 2022 after excelling in the Anfield academy.

As Graeme Bailey reports, Williams’ status at Forest is being watched by United in light of Aaron Wan-Bissaka’s uncertain future.

The right-back from England is expected to leave Old Trafford this summer after he allegedly declined the opportunity to sign with West Ham.

Williams has become a viable substitute for other targets, such as Noussair Mazraoui and Denzel Dumfires.

MEN Sport says: “Much has been made of United’s need for a new right-back. Wan-Bissaka’s quality and the fact that his contract in Manchester expires next summer has meant the position has emerged as a priority.

“Diogo Dalot is expected to be the first choice in the position but a quality deputy is needed. I’m not entirely sure that Williams fits that profile. The Wales international showed promise at Liverpool but has hardly grown into his potential.

“Players like Dumfires and Mazraoui have showcased their talent at the top level. Williams hasn’t.”

Nico Williams transfer impact
Barcelona’s move for Nico Williams could reportedly have a huge impact on Jadon Sancho’s future. Williams is one of the most in-demand players in Europe after his displays with Athletic Bilbao and Spain.

As well as Barcelona, Arsenal and Chelsea are also showing strong interest. It’s understood that a move to Barca is preferred by the Spanish winger, but should a deal fail to be agreed, Sancho is viewed as the ‘plan B’.

According to TEAMTalk, the La Liga giants will go after Sancho if they fail to sign Williams. Sancho has been reintegrated into United’s squad this summer after his fall out with Ten Hag but it’s still unclear whether he wants to remain at the club.

The report adds that United ‘want to sell’ despite reintegrating Sancho into the squad, but he will not be allowed to leave on loan again.

MEN Sport says: “The Sancho problem that has fallen into United’s lap is a difficult one. When he was bossing it at Borussia Dortmund last season, the conversation was how United could have done with keeping him.

“This summer, before it was confirmed he was back in Ten Hag’s plans, talk of a new winger was accelerating. His return is like a new signing and Ten Hag could benefit from having Sancho next season. But the outcome of this saga depends on the player’s preference.

“United would be foolish to allow Sancho to leave. They haven’t benefited from his services since he arrived. However, if Barcelona do come in for him with a good offer, it would be difficult for them to turn it down.”
