Man United may now be favourites to land ‘special’ Premier League defender signing because of FA Cup win

Manchester United may now get a u-turn in their pursuit of one signing after winning the FA Cup final at Wembley on Saturday.

Erik ten Hag and his side delivered an outstanding performance, perhaps proving that there is still a future for the Dutchman’s project.

Manchester United’s captain Bruno Fernandes and manager Erik ten Hag celebrate after the Emirates FA Cup Final match between Manchester City and Man United.

Before kick off, many considered that Ten Hag would be out of the door regardless of the result, signalling a fresh new start under Sir Jim Ratcliffe’s guidance.

However, the empathic win against Manchester City, their second cup win in two seasons under Ten Hag, has seemingly changed popular opinion overnight.

Those who were calling for Ten Hag to leave now seem more sympathetic of the difficult circumstances he’s been enduring, perhaps willing to afford the Dutchman another chance.

Either way, with Ten hag at the helm or not, Manchester United will surely be conducting a big squad overhaul, with the likes of Raphael Varane and Anthony Martial already announcing their departures.

And with United winning the FA Cup final and in turn securing European football for next season, they may have now propelled their chances of making one signing.

Signing a new centre-back appears to be a priority at Old Trafford, and Tosin Adarabioyo, who is leaving Fulham as a free agent, would make a very smart addition.

Perhaps Everton’s Jarrad Branthwaite is the dream signing, but he would demand an enormous fee in comparison.

The Northern Echo describes missing out on European football as a ‘major blow’ for Newcastle’s plans this summer.

Club officials are hoping events will not prevent them from signing Adarabioyo, but the report mentioned suggests there are now concerns that the centre-back could favour a United move.

Adarabioyo, who has shown his ‘special’ talent on more than one occasion for Fulham this season, is set for further talks this week to make his final decision.

So perhaps Saturday’s win could not only change the future of Ten Hag at Manchester United, but could perhaps even lead to Adarabioyo’s arrival.

All that being said, both Ian Wright and Alejandro Garnacho were left blown away by one individual performance at Wembley.
