Man United make first Move to sign ‘Outstanding’ £220,000-a-week Athletico Madrid striker alongside Joshua Zirkzee

Manchester United are reportedly considering a move for Athletico Madrid’s Alvaro Morata, with the club discussing the Spanish captain.

According to Sabah via Sport Witness, Manchester United could be in talks for Alvaro Morata, as INEOS plan on signing a striker to support Rasmus Hojlund.

The report also mentions other clubs keen on the Spanish national team captain, who has a modest €12 million release clause in his Atletico Madrid contract.

Manchester United linked with Alvaro Morata
Alvaro Morata has been a journeyman of sorts for the many clubs he has played for during his long career.

Manchester United were his suitors many years ago, and these fresh links to the Spain captain seem like a throwback.

Manchester United are in the market for a new striker to compete with and complement Rasmus Hojlund. But there’s still no clarity on the type of profile they are seeking.

Morata has shown he has goals in his game and has matured as a different player at Atletico Madrid, where he has consistently performed over the last two years.

Last season, he notched 21 goals in all competitions, and despite having two more years left on his current deal, Atletico Madrid is reportedly open to parting ways.

They have recognised their teenage striker Samu Omorodion and plan to keep him in the first team next season. He could potentially replace Morata, who could leave if a club triggers his €12 million release clause.

The €12 million-rated Euro 2024 captain could be on the move, with the report naming many other prominent clubs, including former side Juventus, as suitors.

At 31, Morata may not have another chance to play for a bigger club than Atletico Madrid, although there are doubts whether that will be Manchester United.

Manchester United are keen on Joshua Zirkzee and could pay a lot to sign him from Bologna this summer.

Considering the Dutchman has a different profile from Hojlund and a big upside for the future, he would make more sense than someone like the Spanish international captain Morata, even though he has been solid thus far at UEFA Euro 2024
