Man United make contact with Real Madrid over 25-year-old star as they consider a shock exit

Man United have reportedly made contact with Real Madrid ahead of the summer transfer window regarding the sale of their goalkeeper Andriy Lunin.

The Ukrainian has been a key figure for the La Liga champions this season having stepped up in the aftermath of Thibaut Courtois suffering a serious long-term injury before the campaign began.

The 25-year-old featured in 31 games for Carlo Ancelotti’s side, keeping 12 clean sheets on the way to the La Liga title and Champions League final. Lunin has played in every knockout round of Europe’s biggest competition ahead of the final at Wembley on Saturday and there has been a lot of talk around the player following the return of Courtois to Real Madrid’s starting 11.

The Ukrainian has been ruled out of the match with Borussia Dortmund as a result of illness but before this news arrived, the suggestion was that the Courtois would start over the 25-year-old despite his role on the way to the final.

Lunin is believed to not be happy about this and according to Todofichajes, the goalkeeper has already decided that he will leave the Spanish capital this summer and his agent, Jorge Mendes, is working on a move.

The Ukraine star is out of contract at the Bernabeu in 2025, therefore, if the goalkeeper doesn’t sign a new deal, a sale this summer would be best for Real Madrid as they can bring in a transfer fee.

The report states that Man United have already made contact with Real Madrid regarding the transfer of Lunin but serious discussions will not take place until the Champions League final has concluded this Saturday.

The Manchester club want to make the Ukrainian their number-one goalkeeper as they are said to not be happy with Andre Onana and are prepared to sell the Cameroonian.

The 28-year-old started the season at Old Trafford in bad form but improved massively as the campaign progressed.

Having only arrived in Manchester last summer, it is hard to see Man United parting ways with Onana and if the Red Devils do move for Lunin, the 25-year-old will likely find himself in a backup role once again
