Man United get £87m Barcelona star ‘greenlight’ as Anthony Martial transfer ‘considered’

In 2024–2025, Man United will look to start strong when they take on Manchester City in the Community Shield and Fulham in the Premier League.

Erik ten Hag’s team Just a few days remain before Manchester United takes on Fulham in their Premier League opener on August 16.

However, Rasmus Hojlund and Leny Yoro are expected to miss a significant amount of time due to injury.

More encouraging news is that after Euro 2024 and the Copa America, a number of their top players will return from a prolonged vacation. It is unclear if they will be ready to begin.

Kobbie Mainoo and Luke Shaw have returned to training and we could get our first look at new signing Joshua Zirkzee this weekend. Below are some of the latest media reports surrounding Old Trafford as well as a view on each one.

De Jong ‘greenlight’
Barcelona are said to be prepared to ‘greenlight’ Frenkie De Jong’s move to Man United. The Dutchman has been linked with a move to Old Trafford for some time with the club agreeing a fee with Barcelona in June 2022 but a transfer never materialised.

And now reports in Spain have claimed that Antony has been offered to the Catalns in a make-weight deal for Barca’s midfielder. However, the offer has been rejected although it is claimed that both clubs are keen on agreeing a deal in principle.

MEN Sport’s Isaac Seelochan says: If, and it’s a big if, United can finally get a deal for De Jong over the line then it would be a huge signing.

The 27-year-old would play a crucial role in accelerating how United play under Ten Hag by providing greater control in midfield which they have never had under the former Ajax boss.

However, I don’t think any United fan will believe this until the player is holding up a United shirt at Old Trafford. This still feels like a fantasy.

Martial transfer interest
Sky Sports are claiming that Europa League winners Atalanta are looking at former United striker Anthony Martial following an injury to Gianluca Scamacca.

It is claimed that the Frenchman is currently considering his options but is uninterested in moves to either Marseille or Besiktas.

It is also claimed that French club Lille are interested while he also has options in the MLS, Brazil and UAE. Martial scored 90 goals in 317 appearances for United.

MEN Sport’s Isaac Seelochan says: Martial has struggled badly in recent seasons with form and injury making it a formality that he would be released this summer.

It will be interesting to see where he goes next but don’t expect it to be a team competing anywhere near the top of European football.
