Mainoo, Shaw, Malacia – Man United injury latest and return dates before Aston Villa

On Sunday, Erik ten Hag will be expecting to see some of his injured stars return for Manchester United’s match against Aston Villa.

United, who have only won two of their first six Premier League games, has to win at Villa. United has a goal differential of -3 and is ranked 13th in the table.

Ten Hag’s tenure at Old Trafford may come to an end if they lose at Villa Park on Sunday; they are currently six points out of fourth place.

Following Thursday night’s tie with Porto, Ten Hag updated media on a few of his injured players. What is known about the people in the Carrington treatment room is as follows.

Injury: Hamstring

What Ten Hag said: “Kobbie Mainoo didn’t make it, it was too big a risk. We have to wait and we have to see if he can play on Sunday, if he’s fit enough to start or be on the bench.”

Mason Mount
Injury: Knock and head injury

What we know: Mount did not take part in training for United in the build-up to the Porto game and was not featured in the squad that flew out to Portugal. His injuries are not suspected to be serious and he is expected to be back soon.

Luke Shaw
Injury: Calf

What we know: There had been speculation that Shaw could return before the international break but Ten Hag has ruled out that possibility. It is thought to be touch and go whether the England international could feature on October 19 against Brentford.

Tyrell Malacia
Injury: Knee

What we know: Malacia has been making good progress and is back on the grass at last. He is behind Shaw in his progress so could be another month away from returning.

What Ten Hag has said: “Yes, he is doing very well. It is very pleasing that his rehab is going in the right direction, and I expect him soon, but what I mean by soon is that he is now in the right planning process. He is in the right spot, and he will return as soon as possible to the squad and then the team training.”
