Journalist urges ‘fantastic’ £60m player to not join Manchester United this summer

Don Hutchison has issued some advice to Michael Olise amid speculation that Manchester United are interested in signing the Crystal Palace star in the summer transfer window.

Manchester United were handed a painful reminder of why they want Michael Olise on Monday night, with the 22-year-old scoring twice against Erik ten Hag’s men to help the Eagles to a 4-0 victory at Selhurst Park.

Olise has a remarkable record in the top-flight this season, scoring nine goals in 17 Premier League games – whetting the appetite for what he could potentially do over an entire campaign were it not for injury.

TBR Football revealed that Palace have informed the likes of Liverpool and Manchester United that they will need to trigger Olise’s release clause – worth around £60 million – to get a deal done this summer.

You would not be entirely surprised if a team did make such a move, but Don Hutchison said that he would urge Olise to avoid making a move to Old Trafford.

“I think if you are giving Michael Olise any advice whatsoever, choose your manager, not the club. Robbo [Paul Robinson] mentioned Man United, I think that would be the worst move for him,” he said.

“I think he would just get lost. I think he would get lost at Man United, a team with poor players and he might end up playing poorly, whereas if you go somewhere for the manager, i.e. someone like play under Pep, he is going to make you better, he is going to put you in the right scenario, he is going to put you in the right position, he is going to improve you as a player, and then you will see him kick on because you can see the talent. He is so graceful. He is a fantastic young player to watch.”

Manchester United have made very little progress over the last decade, and with that, they have seen a number of very talented players struggle.

Olise is clearly a confident character, so he may back himself to be the catalyst for change on the pitch with the quality and potential he brings.

It would definitely be a gamble to leave Palace for United this summer, when so much appears to be up in the air at Old Trafford right now.

If Olise continues on his current trajectory, that big move is inevitable at some stage, so there is arguably little need for the youngster to rush securing a switch out of Crystal Palace
