“I will join Man United on one condition” – Manchester United target Dani Olmo makes transfer decision amid Barcelona registration problems
Manchester United have limited funds to spend in the January transfer market but may have been hoping for one target to become a free agent.
Manchester United fans will be hoping for a better 2025 after seeing 2024 end in dismal fashion.
Dani Olmo transfer stance
Reports last week suggested that United have been keeping tabs on Dani Olmo’s situation at Barcelona.
Olmo only joined Barca over the summer, rejoining the club some 10 years since leaving the club in a swap for Alen Halilovic.
The Spanish playmaker ended up becoming a much better player than Halilovic and Barca paid a hefty price to sign him from RB Leipzig.
Barcelona continue to have financial woes though and were only able to register Olmo for La Liga action due to Andreas Christensen picking up an Achilles injury.
Christensen is back in January though and Barcelona had been given until the end of December 31 to sort out their issues and register Olmo
The big day is here and Olmo still hasn’t been registered, meaning he would be able to become a free agent from January 1.
That would be a nightmare for Barcelona and United have been interested in taking full advantage.
However, Olmo’s agent has now told Fabrizio Romano that the midfielder only wants to play for Barca.
Agent Andy Bara has seemingly suggested that Olmo is happy to wait until Barca can register him again, ruling out any potential move to United
Manchester United have liked Olmo for a while
United may be a little disappointed here as Olmo would have brought major creativity and goal threat to Amorim’s side, easing the burden on Bruno Fernandes.
Olmo has played out wide and as a number 10 and could have been perfect for Amorim’s system.
Olmo seemingly doesn’t have any plans to leave Barcelona right now, despite the fiasco over his registration, but United are likely to remain admirers.
United were interested in signing Olmo from RB Leipzig earlier in 2024 and it’s clear that he has been on the radar for a while.
Olmo surely can’t wait forever and allow his career to completely stall at Barcelona, so United would be wise to remain aware of Olmo’s developments ahead of a potential move to sign him down the line
