I want you at Manchester United – Erik Ten Hag’s phone call to £30m Ajax Striker revealed

Ajax forward Brian Brobbey has previously admitted he’d like to move to Manchester United at some point during his career – as he continues to be linked with a move to Old Trafford.

The 21-year-old attacker, who made his debut for Holland last year, was understood to be a target for Erik ten Hag back in the summer of 2022, having previously worked with the forward during his time as Ajax manager.

However, after an underwhelming stint at RB Leipzig, Brobbey decided to move back to the Johan Cruyff Arena – despite Ten Hag’s efforts to persuade him to move to Old Trafford.

According to Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, the Reds are now ready to revisit their interest in the forward, who has scored 13 goals in all competitions, and make a swoop in this month’s transfer window.

Reporter Florian Plettenberg claims contact between Brobbey and United has continued since United’s first move for the forward 18 months ago, with both parties having a “high appreciation” for each other.

It is claimed a deal could be struck in the summer if a resurgent Ajax side are not willing to lose Brobbey this month.

In light of links with a move to Manchester United, it is worth revisiting the time the 21-year-old forward admitted he would like to play at Old Trafford – despite insisting he still had more to give Ajax.

When asked where he wanted to play one day by ESPN in September 2022, Brobbey replied. “Manchester United.” Brobbey also revealed Ten Hag has told him he would ‘like to have him in Manchester’.

He added: “Erik sent me a message, yes. To congratulate me, and to tell me that he would like to have me in Manchester. But I’m not finished at Ajax yet, I want to show something here first.”

Brobbey also told Dutch outlet De Telegraaf this week: “Manchester United wanted me, but I really wanted to return to Ajax permanently. To make this possible, my agent José Fortes Rodriguez even waived his hefty resale percentage.

“Erik ten Hag called me and at United, José could get his millions and I could earn a multiple of my Ajax salary. But our decision was made: we wanted to go to Ajax.”
