“He’s a born fighter” – Sky Sports pundit Alan Smith blown away by £48m Man United player vs West Ham United

Alan Smith has given his verdict on Manchester United central defender Lisandro Martinez after watching him in action against West Ham United.

The former Arsenal striker and Sky Sports pundit was impressed by the display produced by Martinez for Erik ten Hag’s side at Old Trafford.

So, what has Alan Smith said about Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez? Let’s take a look.

Praise for Manchester United defender Lisandro Martinez vs West Ham United
Well, Manchester United beat West Ham United at Old Trafford in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Hammers are doing well at the moment and are pushing for the top four.

So, David Moyes’s side were expected to make it tough for the Red Devils, but Erik ten Hag’s team won comfortably in the end.

One of the best players for Manchester United at Old Trafford on Sunday was Lisandro Martinez.

The 26-year-old is arguably the best centre-back on the books of the Red Devils and starts when he is fit and available. Aston Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez rates him highly.

Martinez had a very good game against the Hammers. The Argentina international centre-back was a rock at the back and kept the West Ham attackers at bay.

Former Arsenal striker Alan Smith was on co-commentary duty for the match on Sky Sports, and he was impressed by the display produced by the £48.3 million (Sky Sports) defender, hailing him as a born fighter when he was getting substituted.

Smith said on Sky Sports Premier League (3:29 pm, February 4, 2024): “He does (make a big difference). He is a born fighter”.

Injury worry for Lisandro Martinez
While Lisandro Martinez played well against West Ham United, the Manchester United defender had to be substituted in the second half due to injury.

The centre-back, who had only recently returned from injury, seemed to pick up a knee problem after a tussle with Vladimir Coufal.

Martinez’s leg seemed to bend badly, but he managed to play on for a few minutes before deciding that he could not continue.

Manchester United will hope that Martinez does not spend much time on the sidelines.
