‘Gifted’ striker becomes free agent after Man United wanted him in January transfer window

Manchester United simply must sign another striker this summer and Ineos will be working out their strategy to try and help Rasmus Hojlund moving forward.

United put major faith in Hojlund last summer, completing a huge £64million move from Atalanta.

The Dane was only one year removed from playing for Sturm Graz in Austria, so the jump to playing for United was a huge one.

Hojlund has endured a mixed first season at United, showing glimpses of becoming a top striker but also going on lengthy goal droughts.

United still have real hope for Hojlund but it’s clear that another striker must be signed in order to support the 21-year-old.

Unite could go for another young striker and develop both strikers for years to come with RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko wanted.

Another idea would be to go for a veteran forward who can offer valuable experience to Hojlund, potentially aiding his development.

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting of Bayern München was crushed after been defeated Real Madrid during the UEFA Champions League semi-final second leg match…

Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting available after Manchester United interest
One name United considered signing in January was Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting.

Reports indicated that United were keen on Choupo-Moting as a short-term, experienced striker signing somewhat similar to Wout Weghorst and Odion Ighalo in years gone by.

No deal was done in January but the window of opportunity for United to sign Choupo-Moting may now be open.

Bayern have announced that Choupo-Moting is leaving the club at the end of his contract this summer.

The Cameroonian striker said goodbye after Bayern’s final game of the season, a 2-0 victory over Wolfsburg.

Previously let go by Stoke City, Choupo-Moting featured for Paris Saint-German before joining Bayern in 2020.

38 goals in 122 games is a much better record in a Bayern shirt than many expected and he is bound to attract interest as a free agent.

Praised as a ‘gifted’ footballer by former Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann, Choupo-Moting leaves after four years and three league titles in Bavaria.

Choupo-Moting could still be on the United radar, but he is unlikely to be a priority as a new era at Old Trafford awaits.

Would Ineos sign Choupo-Moting?
Ineos and Sir Jim Ratcliffe have seized control of football operations at United and changes are coming.

Changes behind the scenes have already been made and no players or staff – including boss Erik ten Hag – can consider themselves safe.

The expectation is that Ineos will be looking to bring younger player with potential to United.

Signing a 35-year-old Choupo-Moting doesn’t exactly fit into those plans and it would be a surprise to see Ineos strike that kind of deal this summer.

United’s interest in Choupo-Moting made some sense in January in terms of adding an experienced striker without breaking the bank.

Despite seeing Choupo-Moting become a free agent, a move to United now seems a little unlikely as he plays his next move and Ineos look to avoid signing veteran players who may already be past their best
