FA make major Man Utd disciplinary decision following Arsenal penalty remark -Report

Manchester United sent Arsenal tumbling out of the FA Cup at the third round stage on Sunday with a hard-fought win on penalties at the Emirates Stadium.

The home side enjoyed all the possession and all the big chances, but could not make them count against Ruben Amorim’s 10 men. And a Bayindir save in the shootout from Kai Havertz secured a dramatic victory.

United had taken the lead in the second half from a superb Bruno Fernandes effort before Diogo Dalot was sent off for two bookable offences. Gabriel Magalhaes steered home an equaliser but the Gunners could not find a winner in the rest of the 90 minutes nor extra-time

Bayindir had saved from the spot in normal time during the contest in north London too, sprawling to his left to deny Martin Odegaard from 12 yards as Arsenal sought a winner against ten-man United.

It was that penalty in normal time that got everyone talking. Havertz went tumbling under the challenge of Harry Maguire in the box, with referee Andy Madley pointing to the spot. Replays showed there was minimal contact and United were incensed with the decision.

The visitors felt that justice was done when Bayindir saved the spot-kick and went on to say as much on social media. A post from the @ManUtd official account said simply “Justice.” after the match had ended.

Such a post which makes reference to a refereeing decision could fall foul of disciplinary action from the Football Association, but they will not be taking any further action against the Red Devils for the post.

United’s reward for beating Arsenal is a home tie in the fourth round against Leicester City. They will welcome back former player and Erik ten Hag’s assistant Ruud van Nistelrooy for the first time since they parted ways
