Manchester United are believed to now be in contact with RB Leipzig over a deal to bring Timo Werner back to the Premier League.

A striker is the priority for Manchester United in January and with the ambitious Ineos recruitment drive set to begin in the summer, budget options are being considered.

The need for a new striker is huge for United, and with Anthony Martial potentially on his way out amid Fenerbahce interest – a signing will be needed.

Eric Choupo-Moting is one player who has been linked with a move as the Cameroon international is said to be open to discussing a move.

While one of the Bundesliga’s most clinical forwards in Serhou Guirassy is also on the list, although AFCON could get in the way of that.

Meanwhile, Joshua Zirkzee of Bologna is believed to be an option for the summer rather than in January.

According to journalist Ben Jacobs, writing for GiveMeSport, Timo Werner is a deal to keep an eye on in this window.

“Contact has been made with Leipzig’s Timo Werner and this could be one to watch.”

This comes days after it was reported that Leipzig would be willing to allow Werner to join United on loan.

Werner has been a player that Erik ten Hag has been keen on for a while with the striker offering real threat on the transition.

Werner is a name which carries a bad reputation in the Premier League after his poor spells at Chelsea. However, as shown lately few players find it easy to perform at Stamford Bridge.

Werner has since returned to Germany but has failed to refind the form many know he’s capable of. However, he could be the perfect match for the quick transition football Ten Hag wants to play
