David De Gea RETURNS: Erik Ten Hag Welcomes David de Gea back to Manchester as he gives Main Reason Behind his Man Utd return speculation
Former Manchester United goalkeeper David de Gea has been spotted back in Manchester amid ongoing speculation over his future.
De Gea, 32, is currently a free agent after leaving United at the end of last season when his contract expired.
The Spaniard was replaced as No 1 by new signing Andre Onana, who has struggled since joining from Inter Milan in the summer.
De Gea has kept tight-lipped about his future, leading to speculation he may choose to retire rather than continue his professional career.
The former Atletico Madrid goalkeeper set tongues wagging on Tuesday when he posted an image to his Instagram account of himself back in Manchester.
That prompted a wave of comments urging United to re-sign the Spaniard, with some fans even speculating that a return to Old Trafford was already in the works.
However, the Daily Mail have now confirmed the real reason for De Gea’s return to England.

“The Spanish goalkeeper returned to the UK on Monday and is spending a few days sorting out the house in Hale where he lived until leaving United after 12 years at the end of June,” read the report.
“De Gea has since joined his pop star partner Edurne Garcia and their two-and-a-half-year-old daughter Yanay at the family home in Madrid. The couple got married in Menorca last summer.”
The report went on to claim that De Gea is yet to make a decision over his next career move.
“It’s understood that De Gea – who turns 33 next month – is relaxed over his future as he enjoys some well-earned family time, and is not rushing to find a new club,” added the report.
“That may change in January but after spending his last four years at Old Trafford earning £375,000-a-week, he can afford to bide his time.”
David de Gea has been spotted in Manchester amid speculation that he could return to Manchester United.
De Gea called time on his 12-year career at United in July, confirming he would leave the club after winning the Golden Glove award last season.
As a result, Erik ten Hag was forced into the summer transfer market, signing Cameroonian goalkeeper Andre Onana from Inter Milan for £47 million.
However, the 27-year-old hasn’t had the easiest start to life at Old Trafford, making a number of costly mistakes between the sticks, some of which have left fans questioning whether they should have let De Gea go.
The 32-year-old has now added fuel to speculation that he could return to United after he took to Instagram to post a picture of himself at a padel tennis court in Manchester.
Indeed, De Gea could provide useful cover should Onana choose to represent Cameroon at the Africa Cup of Nations early next year.
De Gea is yet to sign for a new club and remains a free agent, meaning Ten Hag could attempt to re-sign the player, with the Spaniard continuing a high-intensity solo training regime off the pitch.
However, reports have claimed De Gea is keen to to live in his home country of Spain, while he is also said to be considering retirement.
It remains to be seen whether De Gea’s visit had anything to do with his former club, but fans have put two and two together, and reckon United could try and sign him on a temporary deal.
Taking to Twitter, one user wrote: “Possible short term contract till season ends?”
“OMG YES PLEASE SIGN HIM,” another added.
“Omds he’s coming back,” a third chimed in.
A fourth remarked: “Onana should be worried,” while a fifth wrote: “De Gea as a number 2 will surely put pressure on Onana to perform.”
