Bruno Fernandes length of suspension after THIRD red card as absences mount for Man Utd

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes was shown his third red card of the season in the 2-0 defeat at Wolves on Boxing Day, meaning he will miss Monday’s meeting with Newcastle

Bruno Fernandes will be suspended for Manchester United’s upcoming fixture against Newcastle – but the midfielder WON’T be banned for any further matches.

That’s because the 30-year-old, who has already been sent off two other times this season, saw a previous red card against Tottenham earlier in the season overturned, meaning there will be no additional matches added to his suspension.

Ruben Amorim did not appear to acknowledge Fernandes as he trudged off the pitch – and United’s head coach bemoaned his sending off after the game.

“I think he cannot go to the ball,” Amorim said when asked about the incident by Prime Video.

“He’s trying to reach the ball and some guys are not even looking at the ball but I don’t want to focus on that. I think the good thing is we were near the goal, even with 10 men. That is a good thing, but we lost.”

He added: “It’s so tough to win games in this league with 11 men. With 10 men, it’s more difficult. We have to focus on that.”
