Cristiano Ronaldo sends strong message to Ruben Amorim afterjoining Manchester United
Ruben Amorim has been wished “good luck” as manager of Manchester United by Cristiano Ronaldo.
After the club fired Erik ten Hag earlier this month, Amorim took over as United’s new manager this week.
Next Sunday, the 39-year-old will try to turn around United’s season after a lackluster start. His team will play Ipswich Town in the Premier League.
After several arguments with Ten Hag, Ronaldo’s second time at United came to an end, but the 39-year-old is eager to see Amorim succeed at Old Trafford.
When asked about Amorim’s move to United after Portugal’s win 5-1 over Poland on Friday night, Ronaldo said: ‘I wish him all the luck in the world. Manchester United really need it.’
It was claimed this week that Ronaldo referred to Amorim as a ‘poet’ in conversations with members of the Portugal national side.
When asked about the reference, Amorim said: ‘Yeah. But it’s like a funny thing because I like to speak, not too much, but when I speak, I think I speak from the heart. I think people feel that. It was something just to have fun.’
Ronaldo, meanwhile, has revealed that he may only have two years left before retirement.
‘I’m enjoying it. Planning my retirement from football… that will happen in a year, two years, I don’t know. I’m enjoying the moment. I’m enjoying football,’ the 39-year-old said.
‘It’s getting up, going to training and playing motivated. When I don’t feel that way, I’ll take a step forward and say that it’s not for me anymore. I haven’t felt that yet.
‘Do I want to reach 1,000 goals? It’s normal to want to, but I don’t think about it. I’m thinking game by game. In three months I’ll be 40. I’m taking it easy and that’s what I’ve been doing. What I like most is playing for the Portuguese national team. I really enjoy coming here. Scoring goals also helps.’
