DEAL AGREED: “sky sports confirmed!” – Man United closing in on fifth summer signing as ‘final conditions’ set and player to arrive Carrington in the next 24 hours

Manchester United’s move for Odysseas Vlachodimos reportedly relies on the ‘final conditions’ from Benfica.

Erik ten Hag is closing in on his fifth summer signing with the Greek goalkeeper supposedly ‘keen’ on a transfer to the Premier League club.

Vlachodimos has been eyed as a new No 2 to first-choice shot-stopper Andre Onana. Ten Hag has been desperate to overhaul his goalkeeping department since the departure of David De Gea.

Onana was signed from Inter Milan in a £43million switch earlier this summer.

Vlachodimos will provide back-up to the Cameroon star, with Dean Henderson understood to be close to an Old Trafford exit.

Ten Hag is in the process of redefining his squad this summer amid a tricky start to the Premier League season, which saw a 2-0 defeat by Tottenham on Saturday. Vlachodimos would become the Dutchman’s fifth summer arrival.

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, United’s move for the 29-year-old depends on the ‘final conditions’ being met on the part of Benfica. Writing in his column for Caught Offside, the journalist explains that the experienced player is interested in joining the Red Devils.

He would follow Onana, Mason Mount, Rasmus Hojlund and Jonny Evans in signing for the club during the current transfer window.

The latter signed a short-term deal to play in pre-season but is now widely expected to pen a longer-term contract.

Vlachodimos would likely replace the soon-to-depart Henderson, who has interest from other Premier League clubs. Henderson is desperate to play regular first-team football after having his loan spell with Nottingham Forest last term curtailed prematurely due to injury.

Express Sport understands that Crystal Palace are keen on a move as they seek to replace Vicente Guaita, who in turn seems set to depart Selhurst Park.

Sam Johnstone has been the Eagles’ No 1 since Roy Hodgson returned in March and Henderson would need to battle with his England colleague for the starting place.
