Man United superstar duo ‘spoke about Zinedine Zidane coming to Old Trafford with team-mates’ as Erik Ten Hag ready to stay -Report

Since there are rumors that former Real Madrid manager Zinedine Zidane could succeed Erik ten Hag, he has shown to be keen to stay at Manchester United.

Before there was any real possibility that the Frenchman would take Raphael Varane’s place at Old Trafford, it is said that the players at Manchester United yearned for Zinedine Zidane rather than Erik ten Hag.

Varane retired in September after suffering a significant knee injury.

He had left Old Trafford on a free transfer and joined Cesc Fabregas’ Serie A team, Como.

Despite being linked to a financially attractive move to the Saudi Pro League, Casemiro chose to stay on the Manchester United team.

Ten Hag’s position is, once again, under pressure after United’s 0-0 draw away to Aston Villa consigned them to their worst start to a league season since 1989. Despite United executives meeting in London, the former Ajax manager has remained in his position.

As is often the case when a United manager is under pressure, Zidane has been linked with a move to the club. And if the Frenchman is given the keys to Old Trafford, it seems Casemiro would be particularly happy.

Over the course of last season, the Athletic reported that Varane and the Brazilian ace were unhappy with the positional and physical demands Ten Hag was imposing.

The duo, who won numerous major honours with Real Madrid, reportedly told their United colleagues they preferred the less hands-on and relaxed approach that Zidane gave them in the Spanish capital.

When the staff at United heard about their wishes, the pair were reportedly told that they are now playing in the Premier League, where teams are faster, more intense, physical, and better quality throughout the division.

Casemiro and Varane were reportedly unsatisfied with this explanation and thus became dissenting voices in the dressing room.

While Varane departed the club, Casemiro is still in United red. He has started four of the season’s first seven Premier League matches but has yet to make any goal contributions. United are currently languishing in 14th position after their draw away to Villa.

Only Southampton have scored fewer than the five goals United have recorded in their first seven Premier League matches. While Ten Hag acknowledges his side have to be better in front of goal, the Dutchman was surprisingly jovial after the draw with Villa.

He told Sky Sports: “We created loads of chances in our seven games but we have to step up. We have to take into consideration Hojlund is returning, he’s still coming up to full fitness.

“But others are stepping up. I was impressed from Rashford, also Garnacho is so good, and Antony at the end. We know in this moment we have a lack of goals.

“In that perspective it’s not a good start, we have to step up. That’s an area we have to improve. But we have four clean sheets. That’s good because we have to defend properly.”
